IMHO (In My Humble Opinion)

Bio:

  • Born in Lafayette, IN and raised on a farm south of there.  I wish all children could have the experience of being a farmer’s offspring while enjoying nature and God’s wonders (growing crops to feed a nation, watching the birth of a baby animal, time out-of-doors away from television and other distractions.)
  • Lived all my live in Indiana (Lafayette, Danville, near Terre Haute, Brownsburg, and Avon).  I love the season changes (yes, even the snow) and don’t have any plans to move during my lifetime.

Work:

  • At age 17, I graduated high school and started working the very next week as a secretary at Student Employment.  Jobs include working at Purdue University, Honeywell Inc., Brownsburg H.S. Media Center, D&E Printing (typesetter), and Brownsburg church of Christ secretary.  I currently spend my time working as the secretary/webgal for Spiritbuilding.
  • I consider myself one of the luckiest women on the planet.  I was able to be a stay-at-home mother, but at the same time had time to volunteer 15 years in the libraries and school system in Brownsburg.  Some of my best memories are working as uniform mom (Nicole’s band), costume mom (Heather’s choir), and library volunteer in all my girls’ schools throughout their educational years.

Family:

  • Michael, my husband of 37 years who has loved me threw thick and thin, brought me to Christ in my 20s and is the reason I am a Christian today.
  • Nicole (age 30) and I love to spend time together TALKING!  Some say we even share a brain.
  • Heather (age 26) and I share a love for teaching the young ones in Bible class.  We also enjoy "shop til we drop" trips!
  • Tony (Nicole’s husband) and Matt (Heather’s husband) are 2 fine Christian men that we feel are like our own sons.
  • Hunter is my adorable grandson.  He loves to talk and smile (we’re sure he gets that from his Mommy Nicole and Mamaw Alayne).
  • Michaela is the newest member of the family. She too loves to smile and has her Daddy and Papaw wrapped around her little finger.

Interests:

  • Teaching Bible classes (women and children’s classes are my passion)
  • Going to movies and eating out (love movies and hates to cook)
  • Spending time with friends and loved ones (I’m an extreme extrovert who loves to spend time with people)
  • Webwork (sometimes my most pleasant part of the day is working on web pages or just surfing the world-wide-web to relax)

Favorite Movies:

  • Two movies that I loved the most growing up were The Sound of Music, The Wizard of Oz. The James Bond series was also a hit with me.
  • Today I usually pick a movie if I like the STARS.  Denzel Washington, Tom Selleck, Bruce Willis, and Jim Caviezel are my popular picks.  Top movie picks: Count of Monte Cristo; Man in the Iron Mask; Live Free or Die Hard; Armageddon (saw it FIVE times at the theatre); Déjà vu (Denzel AND Jim C.); and the Bourne series. My latest favorites are MaMa Mia. (Saw it FIVE times also in the theatre, and got the DVD as a Christmas present.), and Avatar (the 3-D is dy-no-mite).

Favorite Music:

  • 80s music (Shattered Dreams is my #1)
  • Yanni
  • Enya

Favorite Books:

  • The Five Love Languages (Chapman)
  • Love Comes Softly series (Oke)
  • The New Hide or Seek (Dobson)
  • I Love Me, I Love Me Not (McKnight)

Favorite TV:

  • When I was young, no matter where we were or what we were doing, my family would rush home Sunday night to watch Bonanza. During those days there were several great westerns on the tube, including another one of my favs, Cheyenne.  But the show that almost never fails to bring a tear to my eye is Little House on the Prairie.  (To this day I can NOT watch the episode of the Blind School fire OR Old Yeller.) A little later on in life, I rarely missed an episode of any of the Star Trek type shows (especially The Next Generation).
  • Even though as a youth I was a couch potato, today there are very few shows that interest me.  The short list that catches my fancy today is: 24; NCIS; House; and The Closer.
